Drive from Ouagadougou to Bazoulé, home to a sacred lake where hundreds of crocodiles live peacefully alongside the local villagers. Continue to Tiébélé, famous for its elaborately painted Kassena royal compound (UNESCO site). In the afternoon, explore the beautifully decorated earthen homes and learn about Kassena symbolism and traditions. Enjoy a mural painting demonstration by local women, followed by a traditional bonfire evening with Djongo dance.
Travel through Gourounsi and Lobi territories, stopping in a traditional Lobi village to discover their distinctive architecture and social organisation. Experience live balafon music and ceremonial dances before continuing to Gaoua. Visit the Museum of Civilizations for deeper insight into the region's ethnic heritage.
Head to the Ruins of Loropeni — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient stone fortress linked to historic trans-Saharan gold trade routes. Continue toward Banfora to explore the Sindou Peaks and Fabedougou Domes, then cool off at the Karfiguéla Waterfalls. Arrive in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso's cultural capital, to visit the famous mud-brick mosque and enjoy an evening of traditional music and dance.
Cross the border into Mali and continue to Sikasso. Visit the Missiri Koro caves and nearby villages to learn about local customs and daily life, followed by a stop at the Senoufo Museum for deeper cultural context.
Drive toward Mali's capital with a stop in Soulouba village to witness an unforgettable Dogon Mask Dance — a sacred performance expressing ancestral beliefs. Arrive in Bamako for a brief city tour of its markets and riverside life.
Explore Segoukoro, the former capital of the Bambara Kingdom, including its historic buildings and royal tombs. Continue to artisan villages where traditional blacksmithing and gourd crafting are still practised. Visit Dougouba — home to one of Mali's oldest clay mosques — before reaching Segou, set beautifully along the Niger River. Optional sunset pirogue ride.
Travel to Siby, known for its Mandingo landscapes and sacred rock formations. Explore the Arch of Kamadjan and surrounding consultation caves and cliffs. If conditions allow, observe traditional rituals honouring Mandingan spiritual beliefs.
Return to Bamako for final sightseeing, including the Grand Market and key landmarks, before transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
